It's always interesting to see how these National Awards stack against other lists, such as W50B and the usual Guides. I would be interested to see where the judging criteria (or juries) overlap and where they differ to see whether those things play a role. I tried to visit all the starred and bib'd restaurants in Dubai, but it's probably quite dangerous for my health to do so!

The UK Awards seem to be pretty seriously judged. A panel of 200+ judges mixed from chefs, restauranteurs, writers, editors, and others. Clearly still a weakness beyond London, though. Will reexamine the methodology on the W50B when it comes out later this week. I know they've been trying to make it more rigorous.

Thanks for your lovely comments Marshall. I’m working my way through four years of internal monologue. I may run out of steam soon.

I hope not! Loving the monologue so far. Would love to hear your thoughts on no-shows at some point. I think it’s one of the worst things that customers do to restaurants. And I’m glad to see more restaurants taking cards and charging for last minute cancellations and no-shows.

I’ll certainly do one on no-shows/ cancellation fees. Quite a contentious it seems.

If you have any other ideas, please feel free to make suggestions. I’m always looking for inspiration.
